Do you like to socialize & meet new people? How about using the skills you used in the workforce? Maybe it would be fun to learn or do something new, keeping busy and giving back to an organization and your community…if this sounds like you, guess what? You are a FUTURE VOLUNTEER!

The Novato Senior Citizens Club is looking for people who might be interested in doing just that. Check out what jobs are available and their descriptions, letting us know what might be a good fit for you. Volunteers must be a current member of the Novato Senior Citizens Club.

Monday Greeters: set up the greeter’s table before the Monday General Meetings, get the sign-in sheet ready and dated, and then welcome the members as they arrive.

When recognizing a new member, greet them, explain the sign-in procedures, any activities scheduled for that day, and then help them find a seat. Explain that most Mondays you can bring a bag lunch and where to get complimentary coffee, tea or water. If they are interested in signing up for a trip, a catered meal or a class, direct them to the front desk where the office staff will help them do that. Ask questions and try to answer their inquires as best you can, and introduce them to other members.

The Mailings: once a month, usually the 4th Tuesday, help with the mailing of the News/Views, starts at 9:00am – 11:00am, in room 3. At other times of the year, help mail ballots, Holiday Raffle tickets, etc.

Catered Lunches/Dinners: either help set up and/or clean up after. All jobs are under the direction of the Special Event Planner & the president of the Club. You might be asked to set up tables with placemats or tablecloths, the buffet table, utensils, condiments & decorations, etc. After the event, clear the tables of all objects, help put decorations away, & condiments, help put food away or packed it up. Wash any kitchen plates, utensils, pots & pans and put away. Make sure all counters are washed off, coffee pots & hot water are turned off and/or unplugged.

Publicity Committee: under the direction of the Publicity Coordinator, will be asked to go out into the community for outreach by handing out flyers & brochures. Also will solicit requests for food, drink or gift cards as donations to the Club for events or for raffle prizes. You can help with ideas & suggestions about advertising, make up fliers & posters. You might man booths at the Farmers’ Markets or during events & activities held at the Center, or help by participating in the 4th of July Parade.

Working at The Nook: If you enjoy meeting & talking to people and are interested in selling merchandise and would like to work on a scheduled day and time in our consignment store, this might be a good fit for you. You would need to be good at keeping records of sales & making change. One of the nice things about this job is very little walking, there is a nice chair to sit in and in the down times you can even read a good book. Daily hours of operation are from 10:00am – 3:00pm. If you are interested contact Roz Webb, the supervisor or leave your name and phone number at the front desk, 415-899-8290.

Friday Flicks: Every Friday from 2:00 – 4:00 in Rm. 3, NSCC Volunteers sponsor the showing of movies. The movies are borrowed from Club members and a monthly list is typed up by the office staff and then posted in the lobby, and is open to the public. Movies are returned to the mailbox labeled ‘ movies’. If you have an interest in helping, leave your name and phone number at the front desk or contact the present chairman, Nozer, for instruction on setting up the video equipment. The volunteers also will at times, donate a treat to be served with the movie.

Updating the Website: Someone who is familiar with computers and has an interest in being taught on how to update the events listed on the Club website. The website runs on a program called WordPress, that is very user friendly and as an administrator, the person would be involved with the changing of information about upcoming events or activities. Changes can be done at home on the person’s own computer or at the Center in the computer room. The Club president will be in charge of letting this person know what needs changing and the content to be posted. If interested, leave your name and phone number at the front desk, or contact the Club president.
